Anoushka Shankar
Anoushka shankar is a British and American sitar player. She also performs music. She was among the youngest and the first woman to be awarded the British House of Commons Shield she has had 9 Grammy Awards nominations and was the first musician of Indian origin to play live on stage and also be a presenter for the awards ceremony. Anoushka Shankar is among India's rising stars in the sitar. She is both the student and daughter of Ravi Shankar. Her childhood was spent bouncing back and forth from London and New Delhi. In New Delhi, she made her debut when she was only thirteen years old. After moving to Encinitas, CA in 1999 she received an honorary high school diploma. Anouskha was only 17 years old, has had an extremely successful recording and performing career. For a long time she regularly performs with her father. The first album she released as a solo artist, Anourag, was released in 1998. Two years later she released the Grammy nominated Live in Carnegie Hall. As she's appeared on all the major stages in the world, her performance career has been expansive. Anoushka isn't just a musician. Bapi the The Love of My Live, a picture-biography that is written in tribute to her father Ravi Shankar was published in 2002. Also, she appeared in movie in 2003. She played a Bharat Nayam dancer on Dance Like a Man. Anoushka Shankar's career continues to develop and we are likely to see many things from her in the years to follow. Anoushka Shankar is a British native who lived her early years between London, Delhi and California. At the age of 9 she began her studies in music alongside her father. Her first performance with the sitar came in her 75th birthday celebration in Delhi, four years after. Anoushka has gained lots of experience by touring the world with her dad. She played at Carnegie Hall in her teenage time, and also recorded at George Harrison's WOMAD Festival. In recognition of being one of the top musicians in Asian Arts, she was given the House of Commons Shield by British parliament.
